Keith Milano Memorial Fund Makes Donation to the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention's Project 2025

Mitlin Financial's President, Lawrence Sprung, and his family are proud to announce that the Keith Milano Memorial Fund has made a financial commitment to the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention's Project 2025.  As many of you know, Keith was Larry's brother in law and this is a cause he has been very passionate about.  You will also see that the Sprung family has also made a personal donation along with the donation from the fund.  We offer a huge Thank You to everyone that has helped us make the donation and raise awareness for this important cause. Here is a copy of the full press release:

Suicide Prevention Organization Receives Large Donation for Project 2025

Donation Supports the American Foundation for Suicide Preventionโ€™s Project 2025

Goal to Reduce the Annual Suicide Rate 20 Percent by 2025

โ€œWe knew when we launched Project 2025 that it would take generous donations like this one from the Keith Milano Memorial Fund to meet our bold goal of reducing the suicide rate. It is for people like Keith, and those he left behind, that we continue our work โ€“ by investing in Project 2025 the Sprung family is contributing to helping us save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide,โ€ said Robert Gebbia, AFSP CEO.

Keith Milano grew up on Long Island where he attended Newfield High School. He went on to the University of Buffalo, and then to Stony Brook University where he graduated with a bachelorโ€™s degree in Geology. After graduation, he worked as a hydrogeologist for EnviroTrac. Denise Milano Sprung, Keithโ€™s older sister by three years, also attended Newfield High School and the University of Buffalo. Denise and her husband Larry run the Keith Milano Memorial Fund in honor of her younger brother. The Sprung family also made a personal donation to Project 2025 and have been generous contributors to AFSP for many years.

More about Project 2025

Launched in October 2015,Project 2025 uses a dynamic systems model approach based on what the evidence tells us about suicide. The model has already revealed four areas for critical action including: (1) firearms and suicide prevention, (2) healthcare systems, (3) emergency departments, and (4) justice systems.Through collaborating with other organizations, accrediting bodies, professional associations, and leaders in other industry sectors, AFSP is focusing its prevention efforts on the kinds of programs, policies and interventions in these four areas that will save the most lives in the shortest amount of time.

About the Keith Milano Memorial Fund

The Keith Milano Memorial Fund was established to help raise awareness about the devastating deadly disease that is mental illness. Keithโ€™s spirit and laughter is kept alive through our efforts to increase awareness about mental illness and to raise money for education and imperative research. Keith often struggled with societyโ€™s perception of mental illness. Our hope is that by having the strength to say that Keith was โ€œBipolarโ€ we can strip away the stigma and help others to be more open about their disease.

In this edition of Mitlin Minute Larry Sprung discusses how he will be lacing up his skates on Saturday, February 9, 2019 to help the local community.  You can help too!

Please help me support the local hockey ????community!
Donate Here:

If you are available join us for the game on February 9th at 6:00 PM at Dix Hills Ice Rink with New York Rangers Alumni.
???? โšช ????

There has been some confusion by some that I want to clear up, this is NOT a fundraiser for the NY Rangers.
The NY Rangers are using their franchise to help local communities raise money and provide support to their hockey programs. All the monies raised for this event will be used for the community and the kids.

The town where I grew up has benefited by raising over $100k between two events for their local hockey programs.

If you have questions, just ask, but please support this great event.

Again Donations to the event can be made here!

Tickets to attend the game are $20 a link to purchase tickets can also be found on my profile page.

Proceeds from the game will benefit the Rebels initiation to travel hockey program / Rebels Scholarship Fund and upgrades to the old rink (raised bleachers and seating in the old rink)

Seize The Awkward Campaign Receives Large Donation

Donation to Support Digital-First PSA Campaign for Young Adults and Led by the Ad Council, JED and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

NEW YORK (November 8, 2018) โ€“ In memory of Keith Milano, who died by suicide in 2004, his family created the Keith Milano Memorial Fund at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. This fund contributed a generous donation that was earmarked for the new Seize The Awkward public service campaign. Launched in January, this campaign is an effort to empower young adults to reach out to friends who may be at risk for suicide. The campaign was created in partnership by the Ad Council, The Jed Foundation (JED), and AFSP through the ad agency Droga5.

โ€œSince losing Keith and sharing our story we have had so many people reach out for resources. In todayโ€™s digital age tweens and teens see and hear about suicide whether we address it with them or not. Parents and educators need to be able to communicate effectively that there is help, support and that asking for help is a sign of strength,โ€ said Denise Sprung, suicide prevention advocate and resident of Smithtown, New York. โ€œThis is why we chose to allocate such a large amount from the Keith Milano Memorial Fund to the groundbreaking Seize The Awkward campaign. As a parent, I know how important it is to talk to your kid about their mental health and about suicide.โ€

Seize the Awkward encourages teens and young adults, particularly those ages 16-24, to create a safe space for their friends to open up about mental health challenges. The campaign personifies an awkward silence that can happen between friends before a conversation about mental health, through the character, Awkward Silence, portrayed by actor and Broadway star Gideon Glick. It shows viewers the opportunity that exists in recognizing something is wrong and breaking through an awkward silence between friends โ€“ and encourages them to use this moment to check in and ask about mental health.
