This year, don’t just hit delete. With holiday shopping emails pouring in from nearly everyone, it’s the perfect time to reclaim your inbox—and refocus on what truly deserves your attention.
Unsubscribe with Purpose
Take a moment to exercise one of the most underrated rights of the season: the right to unsubscribe.
Just because you purchased something or agreed to receive an email from a retailer at some point, it doesn’t mean you need to keep your inbox blitzed with their information and “deals.” Harvard Business Review found that we spend about eight minutes per day—almost four hours a month—sifting through irrelevant emails. Think of what you could do with two extra days a year!

What’s Really a Deal?
Now that we’ve started clearing out those relentless emails claiming to offer a “deal,” it’s time to be mindful of what truly counts as a bargain.
The companies you choose to keep emails from will continue to send you their “deals.” But here’s the truth: it’s a deal if it saves you money on something you need—something you were already planning to buy or that genuinely adds value.
Once you know it’s an item you need or were planning to purchase anyway, make sure the advertised sale price provides a discount. Many times, you may find a cheaper option elsewhere with a simple search, even after seeing an item on sale in an email.
Plan with Purpose
Have a holiday gifting plan: a list of gifts you plan to purchase and a budget for that expense. Having a framework for the gifts you want to give and the JOY you want to spread over the holidays will help keep your shopping purposeful and your budget on track. This helps avoid overspending or buying more than planned.
Remember to factor in some flexibility in your holiday budget to fully enJOY the season!
