Glenn’s transformation from car salesman to successful entrepreneur

When Glenn was in leadership at an auto dealership, he used social media to drive traffic and recruit top-tier talent. If they didn’t utilize those tools, they wouldn’t have grown and scaled like they did. He became the face of the dealership on social media. That allowed him to learn how to speak, how to be on camera, and how to be entertaining.

When Colin Kaepernick took a knee and the world went crazy, Glenn spent the next year frustrated by the division and hate. That’s when he realized that if something really bothers you, it might be God calling you to do something about it. So he created a safe space online free of politics, anger, division, and hate.

He went live on social media at 5:30 am every Monday through Friday sharing motivation, education, and inspiration. His show blew up. He created a community around it. Over time, they even raised over $1 million for charitable organizations. He got booked for speaking gigs all over the world.

Why Glenn founded the 800% Elite Automotive Club

Glenn’s used car dealership grew 800% to become the second largest in the country. That’s when Glenn realized he was too comfortable at the top. He points out that the Bible talks about how we have a responsibility to multiply the gifts and talents we’ve been given. Glenn wants to take what he’s been given and max out the opportunities. He wants to take them as far as they can possibly go.

Can you look in the mirror and say you maxed out every opportunity? If the answer is yes, maybe it’s time for a change. But if the answer is no, take a good look in the mirror and say “Hey, there’s more to be done here.”

Glenn had gone as far as he could at the dealership and felt comfortable to move on. The automotive industry lacked coaching for owners and GMs. Why? Successful owners and GMs don’t teach others how to do the same thing—they just keep doing it. Glenn wanted to create a life that wasn’t locked to a retail facility while also sharing what he learned. So he created a training and consulting program at the owner level.

Celebrate the behaviors you want to see more of

Most businesses set a monthly target. If they don’t hit the goal, they don’t celebrate. If they do achieve their goal(s), they celebrate, and then the next day it’s back to zero. Glenn wanted his dealership to celebrate things daily. So he created opportunities to do just that. In doing so, they created a culture where people made decisions in the best interest of the company—not themselves.

His dealership held daily morning meetings with everyone present. They followed the “LEAD” process: Listen, encourage, advise, and develop. Every meeting started with them celebrating what they wanted to see more of. If someone got a good Google review, he put it on the screen and read it. Everyone clapped and cheered. It created energy and everyone felt encouraged.

Why Glenn always pairs gratitude with goal-setting

89% of adults know that they should write down their goals but less than 10% actually do it. Why? Writing down goals can be a negative experience for many people. Because as they’re writing them down they’re really saying:

  • “I wish I had more money”
  • “I wish I had a bigger house”
  • “I wish I was better looking”

Writing things down can lead to anger and resentment. No one wants to sit in those feelings. But if you by write down what you’re thankful for, it changes everything:

  • “I’m thankful my bills are paid”
  • “I’m thankful for the roof over my head”
  • “I’m thankful that I woke up today”

Glenn emphasizes that gratitude is the fuel that turns the goal into something positive and meaningful. Gratitude and goals create an environment you want to be a part of.
